Drawing is the cornerstone of painting and sculpture. This is a great workshop for any portrait or figurative painter. During this course there will be lecture, demonstrations and critique. Steven will discuss materials, craft, issues of light and shadow, form, reflective properties of flesh and other aspects of drawing. He will explain how to develop the drawing with focus on movement, and how form is developed to make it look alive. Steven will focus on the conceptualization and development of form. It is not just the bones and muscle, but the internal dynamic that is at the root of any mass or volume that we must begin to see. Throughout the workshop, students will practice seeing and understanding form as it moves towards and away from the eye by virtue of this internal dynamic, and not by the shell of the surface alone. Four-day figure and portrait drawing workshop starting Wednesday, November 15 through Saturday, November 18; hours will be 10:00 to 5:00, at the Lyme Art Association. Workshop fee: $750 for members, $800 for non-members. To sign up for the workshop, contact the Lyme Art Association at (860) 434-7802. A deposit of $200 is required by August 31 to reserve your space, with the balance due on September 30.
