The "Just A Piece of Freedom" mural idea was born from an original painting by High School student Nick ChaCha. The mural was made to represent a welcoming piece of art that celebrates the diversity of our students by heritage and by talent, as the Old Saybrook Public School system believes in offering its students the freedom to rise to be whatever they want to be. The students in the mural were selected after their written submissions explaining what living in Old Saybrook meant to them, and their individual talents and passions. The mural was created the week of June 13th 2022 and was led by international mural artist Rafael Blanco who worked alongside Old Saybrook students to create an interactive art experience. Recent graduate Matt Johnson captured the process in a documentary short. Join us for a FREE screening and discussion with international mural artist Rafael Blanco and the students portrayed in the mural.
