COMMUNITY EVENT COMMITTEES

 

Arts & Crafts Committee Belinda Murano, Chairperson

Annual Summer Community Event (Outdoor) -July 21-22, 2012

Committee members assist with planning and execution of the event of this annual 2-Day Event that includes 150+ artisans & crafters exhibiting on the Old Saybrook Town Green Committee meets the 3rd Wednesday of every month from January to November 8am - Chamber Office

 

Business Expo 2012 Heather Gagnon, Chairperson

October, 2012 - Business and Community Event

This committee plans and organizes the annual Business Expo to promote business-to-business networking, showcase member products and services, and invites the community to visit each booth.

Chili-Fest Susan Esty & Kate Cryder, Co-Chairs

Annual Winter Community Event (Outdoor) -March 3, 2012

This committee assists in recruiting, marketing, and execution of this event. 30+ chili recipes are cooked by chamber members. Visitors vote for their favorite chili-proceeds benefit the Chamber's Scholarship Fund.

Week Long Celebration of Area Restaurants- prix fixe lunches and dinners - March 4-10, 2012

 

 

MEMBER SERVICES COMMITTEES

 

Ambassador Team Rich Bachand, Chairperson

Ambassadors serve as public relations support for the Chamber of Commerce. They assist the Chamber's recruitment and retention efforts through personal interaction and involvement; helping to host Chamber events; visiting new and existing members and ascertaining feedback. Monthly meetings are held to keep Chamber staff informed of member needs and to foster new ideas for improved member services.

Committee meets the 3rd Thursday of every month - 8am at the Chamber Office

 

Legislative Derrik Kennedy, Chairperson

This committee is a resource for Chamber Members to identify legislative issues of high importance to the business community and constructs the annual legislative agenda on a local, state and federal level. The committee periodically reviews bills; educates chamber members on legislation affecting businesses; when approved by the board takes a stand for or against a particular piece of legislation.

Committee meets the 2nd Friday of every month - 8am at the Chamber Office

 

Marketing/Tourism Lori Woll, Chairperson

The Marketing Committee promotes the image of the chamber to the community, chamber members and potential members and works to enhance the chamber¡¯s image through communications with the press.Works with the EDC to develop and market the Town/Region for attracting businesses and residents as well as promoting tourism.

Membership

The Membership Committee works with the Ambassador Team to further develop member services keeping the Chamber's programs current and relevant to members' needs - such as Chamber Dollars, Member-to-Member Discount Program, Educational Seminars, etc.

Non-Profit Resource Council Steve Norton, Chairperson

This council is comprised of chamber member representatives who understand the value of strong partnerships between non-profit organizations and community businesses. This collaboration of areanon-profits provides mutual support and the opportunity to network, organize, share ideas and advocate goals.

Route 1 Ginny Denvir, Chairperson

This is a collective group of Route 1 businesses interested in promoting the uniqueness of the Boston Post Road business community; Also responsible for the bi-annual Bowl-a-thon events.

 

Women In Business Initiative Linda Brophy, Chairperson

A mentoring program to develop women leaders in business and the community. Monthly Luncheon Meetings for Women with guest speakers: January 19, February 16, March 15, April 19 (evening wine tasting Copper Beech Inn), May 17, September 20, October 18, November 15.

 

Sponsorship

The goal of the Sponsorship Committee is to identify and secure sponsorships for specific events and programs. Sponsorship committee members will also work with the membership and marketing committees to design sponsorship packages, create a targeted list of ongoing potential sponsors, and more.

GOVERNING COMMITTEES

 

By-Laws

This committee oversees the relevancy and completeness of Chamber by-laws; develops suggested changes/additions to the by-laws as needed to present to the BOD and General membership for approval.This committee is also responsible for ensuring compliance to the Chamber by-laws.

 

Finance Bill Guerra, Chairperson

The role of the finance committee is primarily to provide financial oversight for the organization. Responsible for the fiscal integrity of the Chamber; monitor the Chamber's Finances; Develop annual budget; advises the BOD as to the Chamber's future financial needs and develops proposals for meeting those needs.

Committee meets the 3rd Monday of every month from January to November 5:30pm - Chamber Office

 

Nominating

This committee annually implements criteria and nomination forms to be sent to all members wishing torun for open board positions. The committee verifies that all applicants have met the established criteriaand then prepares a list of nominees for each office of the Chamber as well as those directorships whose terms are expiring.

Committee meets once a month from August to October

 

Personnel Michael Hoinsky, Chairperson

The primary goal of the Committee is to be an advocate for the staff and to oversee personnel-related functions. Oversee policies and procedures for Chamber staff; ensure compliance with state and federal regulation for human resources; set annual goals for the Executive Director and conduct annual performance review of Executive Director; monitor and update Chamber's personnel policy as needed. In the event of open or newly established positions, oversee the review/revision of job descriptions and the interview process. Maintain regular communication with the Chamber Executive Director and staff.

Scholarship Kristen Roberts, Chairperson

This committee develops the scholarship application, screens applicants and selects winners of annual Chamber scholarship program.

Meets 2 or 3 times a year in the late winter/spring
