Historic John Whittlesey House ~ Site of Historical Society Celebration
40 Ferry Road, Old Saybrook

In 1662 the Connecticut General Court granted John Whittlesey and William Dudley �liberty to set up a Ferrey at Tilleyes Point and to take 12d. for a man and horse, and 6d. for a single person.� Two years later John married 19 year old Ruth Dudley, William�s sister, and a few years later they moved into their house on Ferry Road.
This June�350 years since John Whittlesey began operating that ferry�the Old Saybrook Historical Society is holding their annual in the historic John Whittlesey House, 40 Ferry Road, Old Saybrook, on Saturday, June 23 from 5:00 � 7:00 p.m. The fun-filled occasion will include a rare opportunity to explore the early architecture and examine some of the non-public details of this 17th century home/museum. The interior is furnished with period treasures and includes 17th and 18th century needlework and an outstanding collection of schoolgirl samplers, some of which will be for sale. While you enjoy hors d oeuvres and cocktails on the spacious grounds, you will be entertained by Connecticut's 1st "Official State Troubadour," Tom Callinan. Hosts for the evening are Carol and Stephen Huber and generous sponsors are Ralph and Gail Gometz of Old Saybrook.
Tickets are available for $100 per person, payable to Old Saybrook Historical Society, and may be obtained at the Stevenson Archives, 350 Main Street, Old Saybrook on Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to noon or 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Friday from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. Tickets are also available at Harbor Books, 146 Main Street, Total Design Source, 180 Main Street, and Saybrook Recycle Furniture, 33 Stage Road. The number of attendees for this year�s event is limited and ticket orders will be filled on a first come, first served basis.

Moving away from the principles of traditional origami, modular/polyhedron/kusudama origami introduces the concept of folding multiple basic units which are combined with glue, thread or interlocked to form an intricate, symmetrical model. Participants learn to create 6, 12 & 24-piece forms. The workshop is taught by the mother/daughter team of Cricket and Kelly Carufe. No experience necessary!

Terri Brodeur Breast Cancer Foundation and Odetah Camping Resort Planning to �Putt Out Breast Cancer�! - Saturday, May 19, 2012

The Terri Brodeur Breast Cancer Foundation (TBBCF) in conjunction with Odetah Camping Resort will host the �Terri Brodeur Breast Cancer FUNdraiser Weekend� on Saturday, May 19 and Sunday, May 20. This event is open to the public and Odetah campers. "Odetah is honored to host this event. Cancer has deeply impacted so many of our camping families and friends over the years. The Terri Brodeur Breast Cancer Foundation shows how we can make a difference together as a local community." said Odetah owner, Nathan Adelman. Saturday will feature a �Family Fun Day� with fundraising events including pink tie dye t-shirts, pink cotton candy, pink ice cream sundaes, mechanical polar bear rides on Lucy, a family-FUN two mile pink poker walk, and breast buddies bingo. Loads of free activities including a hayride and pink powder puff football are available! Sunday will feature the �Putt Out Breast Cancer� mini golf tournament at Odetah�s Championship Knolls & Holes Course, a cookout, refreshments and golf prizes. Come, stay, and enjoy some family FUN for the entire weekend! 100% of TBBCF gross fundraising dollars goes directly to breast cancer research.
