Town Information
A staff of 28 full-time men and women make up the Old Saybrook Police Department, providing security, support and protection for residents and visitors. A bicycle patrol is an integral part of the department. As in many small towns, the Fire Department is composed of volunteers. Unlike most, the volunteer force is made up of specialized units. The department owns such equipment as "Jaws of Life" and a heavy-rescue unit. Visit their website for more information. Providing emergency service and transportation to area hospitals, the Old Saybrook Ambulance Association is a volunteer, non profit organization that is on call 24 hours each day. The Clean Water Act prohibits the discharge of untreated sewage within three miles of shore, called the US Territorial Seas Demarcation Line. This includes all of Long Island Sound.
