Town Information

Old Saybrook is governed by a three-member Board of Selectman elected to two-year terms. A seven-member Board of Finance handles the town's fiscal affairs. The annual town meeting is held in November and regular meetings are called as needed, with the dates and hours posted through local media outlets and their website.

A staff of 28 full-time men and women make up the Old Saybrook Police Department, providing security, support and protection for residents and visitors. A bicycle patrol is an integral part of the department.

As in many small towns, the Fire Department is composed of volunteers. Unlike most, the volunteer force is made up of specialized units. The department owns such equipment as "Jaws of Life" and a heavy-rescue unit. Visit their website for more information.

Providing emergency service and transportation to area hospitals, the Old Saybrook Ambulance Association is a volunteer, non profit organization that is on call 24 hours each day.

Parks are open dawn to dusk. The following list of Parks are available to the general public:

Saybrook Point Park: end of College Street on the Connecticut River. Mini-golf, picnic tables, scenic views.
Fort Saybrook Monument Park: College Street. Historic fort site, storyboards, marsh views.
Kavanaugh Park: Trask Road. Youth ballfield, playground, tennis, basketball courts and restroom.
Clark Community Park: Schoolhouse Road. 180 acres, ballfields, basketball courts, trails, picnic area, pond(no swimming), shelter.
Town Green: Main Street. Gazebo, hosts civic events, summer concerts, winter skating.
Great Cedars Conservation Area, Ingham Hill Road. Over 300 acres of newly aquired open space.

The Clean Water Act prohibits the discharge of untreated sewage within three miles of shore, called the US Territorial Seas Demarcation Line. This includes all of Long Island Sound.
